Echols County K-8 School

106,000 SF, one-story replacement facility constructed of block and brick. The new school was built directly behind the existing school and near residential areas which required constant communication and coordination to prevent interfering with daily activities and traffic. Specific safety procedures and a traffic maintenance plan were developed for this project. The entire team worked together to overcome all project challenges. For example, because of the rural location of the project, there was not enough water pressure available to meet fire suppression code. Elkins and the architect worked together with the owner to find a reasonable solution to the problem. The solution involved the installation of a large water tank to provide the required pressure for the fire suppression system.
